Photographer Beth Galton and food stylist Charlotte Omnes have joined forces to create Cut Food, a series of food that is hence the name cut to show a sort of diagram of the food. It is an interesting way to display the food. The first example is a bowl of instant noodles which looks delicious the second is 3 jelly donuts next to a cup of coffee which creates a mystery: how did they keep the liquid in? My guess is they used a clear piece of plastic to create a window in the cup.

Martin Klimas - abstract art

Martin Klimas is a German photographer who uses the combination of paint, music, and modern techniues to create colorful art that is reminiscent of Jackson Pollock and other abstract artists. One may ask why use a photography when you can create the same image with paint. The answer is that photography captures the movement and has an almost 3D quality that simple paint on a 2D canvas would. It is almost a fourth dimensional in that it captures a specific time.

Mike Stimpson - LEGO history

Mike Stimpson has created several photos featuring LEGO blocks and figures to represent iconic photographs that have captured historic moments. Such as the man making a stand in front of the tanks in Tieniman Square. Stimpson's attention to lighting and composition recreate the photos so that they are recognizable. It brings a sense of humor to the historic moments but also encourages one to think about the original photo and research the history behind. 

Alan Firmin- in the darkest moments

This is a photo I found of Natalie Portman. It caught my eye because sheis one of my favorite actresses and I like that the photographer Alan Firmin takes the portrait and changes it to create a different reaction. It is also a great demonstration of how adjusting levels and probably using various filters or color/hue/lightness/darkness variations can really make a peice stand out.

Brad Hitz - advertizing

Brad Hitz has a unique style that incorporates color, composition, and style to present the product while positioning the brand so that anyone thumbing through a magazine will be draw to the photo.  Each product has it's own feel Gap is about stylish casual clothing. The Coke ad is very technicolor which invokes a nostalgic feeling. The third ad shows sophistication, speed and performance of Mercedes Benz.

Funny Ads

Felicia Avila - Graphic Design company and product

This is an ad for a graphic design company. It caught my eye because a. Catherine Zeta Jones is in the photo so it has star power. It shows that the brand can be trusted with professional images. It is cool how her dress blends with the wallpaper. the designer must have spent a lot of time adjusting the color levels so that it is not too orange or too green or blue. The dark hair staneds out again the backfround but is matched by the black borders at the top and bottom. The typography is effective using a large script font.  It also includes all pertinent information such as the name of the design company, the logo, contact info and address.

Magazine Ads- Product

Magazine ad for Valspar paint.  Caught my eye because it shows the importance of color. It's a bit too central but the type offsets it a bit. I could not find the name of the photographer.

Baojun Yuan - amazing repairs

Baojun Yuan, 76 years old, has been using photoshop to repair old photos of fellow Chinese citizens. He learned how to use photoshop when he was 60 and has fixed more than 2,000 photos.  It is amazing how beautiful these photos turned out compared to how damaged they are.

Romain Laurent - TILT

Here is an example of breaking rules of composition to achieve an intended effect. These were probably shot strait on with the subject leaning slightly and tilted using the crop tool in Photoshop. They could also be shot by tilting the camera on a tripod.

Leo Caillard - Panoramic Landscapes

Another good example of panoramic photography. In this case, panoramic is used to create an otherworldly feel- the first photo looks like a futuristic city, I'm not sure exactly what city it is. It tells the story of how the city is built.  

This desert landscape below reminds me of Tatooine from Star Wars. The two figures on the right side looks like one tall and one short- could be Artoo-Detoo and See-Threepio.

Jurgen Heckel - Lumen

These are striking landscapes which are taken at first light. It is an interesting way to show a forest- dark trees and the faded colors of sunrise. It is an example of how color does not have to be very bright but can be muted and have a few lighting elements that create a neat effect.

Emily Soto - Color portrait/fashion

Color is important in fashion photography. When thumbing through a catalogue or shopping, a clothing designrwants to draw the ey to the product so they rely on good color photography that is accurate and shows off the style. These fashion photos were taken by Emily Soto of Los Angeles. I found her one behance.net and have provided a link to her fashion website.
